Officers of the Executive Board are elected each May and typically serve two year terms as able. The Executive Board meets for the half an hour prior to the regular PTA meeting.
They are generally selected after year or two of consistent participation in PTA meetings.
Lena serves as PTA President and leads the Battle of the Books program at Thomas Paine. She is raising a 5th grader and a 2nd grader, and works professionally as a Senior eLearning Developer & Instructional Designer at CMR Institute.
The president runs both the Executive Board meetings and the regular PTA meetings, creates the agenda for the meeting, coordinates with other board members and volunteers to organize events and fundraisers, meets with the principal to discuss school matters, receives all requests and correspondence for the PTA, signs legal documents, and guides the PTA’s overall goals.
Kelly is serving as PTA Vice President and Carnival Committee Chair. She has a 6th grader and 2nd grader. She is an associate professor at the University of Illinois.
The vice president positions organize and oversee the PTA events (such as the Carnival) and fundraising campaigns, coordinating with other volunteers and the president as needed. If necessary, the senior vice president takes over the presidential duties.
Liz is serving this year as PTA Vice President and chair for our Family Events such as reading nights, movie nights, and more. She has 2 kids attending Thomas Paine, in 3rd grade and kindergarten. Outside of her board role she works full time for the Erikson Institute as a Home Visiting Specialist, helping families connect to early childhood services. She also enjoys reading, baking, and gardening.
Ashley serves as the PTA Treasurer. She has a 4th grader and 6th grader at Thomas Paine Elementary. She works full time at Carle Therapy Services
Lisa is the PTA secretary. She has a 2nd grader and 6th grader at Thomas Paine. She works full time as an Executive Assistant at the Urbana Police Department.
Volunteers are appointed by the board to coordinate specific events or aspects of PTA duties.

The hospitality coordinator is not an elected position, but a volunteer that commits to the position for the year. The hospitality coordinator organizes and oversees the Spirit Week activities, Parent-Teacher conference dinners, and Teacher Appreciation Week activities and gifts.
Oesten started as Media Coordinator this year, but would really just prefer to focus on the website. His full-time job is as an IT Operations Systems Administrator. He has a 3rd grader at Thomas Paine.
The Media Coordinator handles the website and media on other platforms.
